How this NIF tax/fiscal representative removal works
This service is completed in two main steps:

1. Activation of electronic notifications inside Finanças portal (if not already active)
Electronic notifications must be active before a tax representative can be removed. If they are not yet active, we will handle this for you.

  • The Portuguese Tax Authority processes these requests on a fixed schedule:
    • On or before the 10th → processed on the 1st of the following month
    • After the 10th → processed on the 1st of the second following month
2. Tax representative removal request
If/Once notifications are active, we will submit and handle the removal request (typically 10 business days).

⏱️ Timeline
  • With activation required: typically 5–10 weeks, up to 3 months
  • If already active: approximately 10 business days

🔐 Access to your Finanças account
We will require access to your Portal das Finanças account to complete this process.

⚠️ Important to know
  • This service is strictly limited to the tax representative removal process
  • No other actions will be taken within your Portal das Finanças account
  • Timelines cannot be expedited and may vary
  • You may need to provide proof you are not residing in Portugal, such as current proof of address
  • The Portuguese Tax Authority has full control over the process and final decision
  • This service is non-refundable once initiated, regardless of the outcome

Here's the difference:

  • NIF Address Update — updates your fiscal address on your NIF to a Portuguese address, making you a Portuguese tax resident. This is what you need.
  • Tax Representative Removal — removes the fiscal representative from your NIF. This typically happens after your address has already been updated to a Portuguese one.

Once your address is updated, we can then help you remove your tax representative as a separate step if needed.
